Arts II and Med. I : Private, 3rd Coy., A.A.S.C., and 3rd Battn., A.I.F., Egypt and France. Enlisting 23rd December, 1914, and sailing in February, 1915, with 2nd Reinforcements 1st Divisional Train, was attached to Australian Records Section, Alexandria, 22nd June, and 220 Depot Unit of Supply, 9th July, and that month invalided to Alexandria Hospital. On recovery joined 3rd Coy., A.A.S.C. 4th December and served on Tripoli frontier until March, 1916, and returning to Australia in July, was discharged 4th August to resume medical studies. Reenlisting 31st October and sailing with 25th Reinforcements 3rd Battn. in November, 1917, joined battn. 4th April and fought in Hazebrouck and Somme sectors, being wounded at Proyart, 23rd August and, rejoining battn. on recovery, served until demobilisation. Early education at Newcastle High School.
