D.S.O., Sci. : Major, 4th Field Artillery and 7th Infantry Brigades, A.I.F., France. Commissioned in Permanent Forces 29th June, 1915. Joining 4th Brigade A.F.A., 1st July, was promoted temporary captain, 1st April, 1916, and transferred to 1st Divisional Ammunition Column. Rejoining brigade—10th Battery—transferred to 2nd D.A.C. and again to 4th Bde. as Adjutant. Promoted captain, 15th July, 1916, and seconded as staff trainee to 7th Infantry Brigade, 8th February, 1917. Promoted major and to command 18th Battn., 1st September, being transferred to 14th Battn. in May, 1918. Wounded near Hargicourt, 19th September but attached to 7th Infantry Brigade as assistant brigade major on 25th and brigade major, 28th October. Awarded D.S.O. 1st January, 1919, and Mentioned in Despatches. A.M.F. : Staff Corps : Administrative Staff Officer, High Commissioner''s Office, London, 1st January, 1929. Early education at Melbourne High School. Graduated later at Royal Military College, Duntroon, Artillery College, Woolwich, and Staff College, Camberley.
