Enlisting 26th November, 1915, and sailing with 2nd Reinforcements 38th Battn., joined battn. in France 26th October, 1916, serving with it till 28th June, 1917, when transferred to A.A.M.C. as captain. Was at A.A.M.C. Training Depot till May, 1918, then returning as M.O. on transport, arriving in Australia in July.
