Mechanic, School of Engineering workshop : Bomber, 6th Light Trench Mortar Battery, and 36th Battn., A.I.F., France. Volunteering 30th July, 1915, was rejected. Went to serve at Vickers-Maxim's dockyards for twelve months and acted on a committee representing the Australian engineers employed there, also worked on H.M.S. Queen Elizabeth . Returning to Australia, succeeded in Enlisting 4th December, 1916. Wishing to join A.F.C., he nevertheless responded to an appeal for volunteers for the Light Trench Mortar Battery and sailed in February, 1917, with L.T.M. reinforcements. Joined the 6th Division. Later, in France, was transferred to 36th Battn. Was buried by shell-fire at Broodseinde on 4th October. After a short time in hospital, rejoined battn. and was seriously wounded at Passchendaele 19th October. Died of Wounds, 23rd October, 1917, and was buried at Lyssenthoek Military Cemetery near Poperinghe, Belgium. Education at Glebe Public School, Cleveland Street Intermediate High School, and Technical College. First apprentice in Peter Nicol Russell School of Engineering.
