B.A. : Lieutenant, 54th Battn., A.I.F., France. Enlisting in October, 1915, and sailing in October, 1916, as second-lieutenant, joined battn. 8th February, 1917, near Bapaume. Following enemy to the Hindenburg Line in March, was detailed to Central Training School (The Bull Ring) at Havre. Rejoining battn., served at Polygon Wood and Passchendaele and acted as Works Officer, Assistant Adjutant and Intelligence Officer till gassed at Villers-Bretonneux 18th April, 1918. Resuming duty in September, saw action at Peronne and St. Quentin Canal and was detailed to Education Service as Brigade Education Officer (14th and 53rd Battns.) returning as Transport Education Officer for demobilisation. Early education at Crown St. Public and Sydney High Schools.
